iPhone 11 - Speakerphone cuts out when other person talks

Hello I have read that this is an issue for many people - likely thousands would be my guess. I have not seen a real answer. The Microphone works fine unless on speakerphone - then the audio cuts out preventing a fluid conversation because with the speakerphone in use only one voice can be transmitted at a time, when using speakerphone function. Try talking while the other person is talking and they can't hear you. This does not happen on the same call when using the handset not speakerphone. This hasn't been the case with many iPhones however it does appear to be a systematic issue - something isn't working correctly and I would imagine it is certainly the software. Can apple address this question? It is not due to the case, the speakers and microphone work fine - it is the lack of two way simultaneous voice transmission that is the issue. I and many, many others look forward to a reply. I imagine some of the folks that work for apple have experienced the same problem - many thanks.

Hello there mk-20,

Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.

If you're seeing that your microphone doesn't pick up your audio when talking on speakerphone, check out the suggestions below to see if they help. You can find this information here: If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working - Apple Support

If people can't hear you when you're using speakerphone

1. Open the Camera app.
2. Record a video while speaking at the top of your iPhone.
3. Tap the camera chooser  to switch to the other camera. Then record another video while speaking at the top of your iPhone.
4. When you play back the videos, you should hear your voice clearly.
5. If you don't hear your voice clearly, contact Apple Support.

If that isn't helpful, try to isolate when this occurs to work towards a resolution. For instance, if this is happening with a case on the iPhone but not without a case on the iPhone then this would be occurring due to the iPhone case. If you see that this happens randomly, determine if this is due to loud background noise on one end of the call, or if this happens when your iPhone is placed on a surface where both the microphone and speaker are obstructed which could lead to the audio being picked up by the microphone.

If you're unable to isolate this and can't clear it up, Contact Apple Support directly to look into this.

Have a great day!

Thank you for your response. I have removed all variables. no case, microphone works...it simply does not retain two way communication while on speakerphone. As soon as I switch to the handset audio - that is turning off speakerphone - then two way conversation begins, and when I switch speakerphone on - simultaneous two way conversation cuts out, allowing only one persons audio to transmit at a time. It's really that simple...or complicated I suppose since many people seem to have the same problem and there isn't a fix for it. It has only started happening since my last update I believe. What I can say for certain is that it wasn't happening for the first year I've used the phone and now it 'magically' seems to be standard operation. Can you acknowledge that you have received this same message for help from others...or is this the first apple has heard of this issue? Thanks - look forward to hearing from you. I will schedule an appointment with the Genius Bar near me.
