Traveling international do I need VPN or will private relay be enough?

You do not need a VPN. If you are accustomed to using Private Relay then that is enough.

VPNs and Private Relay do not form a barrier to protect the device from anything. The purpose of these services is to somewhat mask the IP address which prevents the disclosure of your device's exact location and thus providing some level of privacy.

NOTE, you have an iPhone and it is nearly impossible to hack it. Enjoy your International Traveling, use Private Relay and do not worry about any outside or remote intrusion when around a public Wi-Fi Network.

To further expand the answer, Private Relay is superior to VPN, because there is no 3rd party provider (i.e. the VPN provider) involved, who might or might not be tracking you.
