I have a 21 inch late 2015 iMac bought used that freezes. I want to return it but want to format the had drive to delete all info I put on it. How do I do that?

Why not just create a dummy admin user, login to it then remove your user. Select not to keep the Home folder and all your data will be gone.

Follow the steps in What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac. If you cannot due to the freezing then you have a problem.
