Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter [Adapter USB A port to monitor USB hub]

I am looking to buy the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter but I have one question.

could I connect the the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapters USB-A port to a Dell Ultra-sharp monitors usb upstream port to have access to USB downstream from the monitor? This way I would connect a hard drive or usb stick to the monitors usb ports. is this possible or is this too much bandwidth. My ideal my setup would look like this:

  1. HDMI to apple Adapter
  2. Adapter to USB upstream port on monitor
  3. Apple charging cable to adapter.

that's a 1920 by 1080 display with these connections:

Connectivity

Interfaces

  • DisplayPort
  • VGA
  • HDMI
  • USB 3.0 upstream (Type B)
  • 2 x USB 3.0 downstream (Type A)
  • 2 x USB 2.0 downstream (Type A)

To connect the display's Upstream [input] USB port to use its built-in USB Hub, it looks like you need a USB-C computer-end to USB-B display-input end, all rated for USB-3
