iMessage on Apple Watch Reading My Responses as New Messages

I have the Apple Watch 7, but I noticed this on my 5 too before I got rid of it. With the software updates, iMessage on my watch will say I have an unread message but it’s counting my response as the unread message. I do not have an unread message. It is saying I do but it is my response back to the person that it’s counting as an unread message. I have tried resetting, re-syncing, mirroring and unmirroring. I am out of ideas and wondering if anyone else is having this issue.
