Visual voicemail indicator not indicating new messages

Sometime around 7/22/10, I stopped getting notifications of new voicemail messages. I did not discover this until today, 8/9/10. AT&T wasn't much help, but a message from another forum said to try "reset all settings". I did this and it got the indicator working again. Try settings>general>reset>reset all settings. I lost my "wallpaper" and I had to reset the voicemail password (which I didn't know, but learned it was my phone number without the area code). Send yourself a voicemail ahead of time so you know if this works. It should show up.

Hope this helps!

What did work for me as well:

General>Reset>Reset all settings

Know your VM password before doing this as stated below.

I'm glad y'all found this helpful - I was really glad when I got my phone working again. I did have one message show up 3 hours late today, but the phone vibrated & the indicator lit up like it was supposed to. Don't know if the VM had been accessible the whole time, but at least I got the message.

I've been having this problem (voicemails not showing up on the phone) for about 11 days.

AT&T ran through their troubleshooting and then told me I had to update my phone (on iOS 4.02) to the latest software, with some mumbo jumbo about how they have to update their servers... They refused to go further.

I did some searching and found this answer (reset all settings) and it worked. I did need to re-establish my wallpapers, and the first couple of times I pressed the voicemail button in the Phone app, it just dialed the voicemail service (rather than provide visual voicemail). The second time, a prompt came up for my voicemail password (which I entered), and the next time I pressed the voicemail button, all my messages, including the handful that I had missed in the last 11 days, showed up in visual voicemail.

Many thanks to this forum and all who shared their experiences. Problem solved, for me.

A post-script:

It isn't really accurate to say the the only settings that need fixing are the Wallpaper settings when you Reset All Settings.

You also lose, well, all settings!

For me, the most notable are:
- WiFi settings. It lost all the stored passwords from people's WiFi networks, meaning each place where I had a password, I'll need to recover it.
- Mail, etc. settings. Have to reestablish the default account, the preference about which lines to show by default, etc.
- Others: default ring tone, iPod menu preference, battery indicator, Bluetooth....

Given this, I'd suggest that any user with this issue who has done any manipulation of settings might use this method as a last resort. Instead, I'd try another solution: after pressing and holding 1 on the dail pad, and listening to all your missing messages, call AT&T and ask them to disable and re-enable voicemail on your account. I hear that might work.

Oh, and another post-script.

This method of Resetting All Settings drops data and settings from other, native applications. For example:

- Cities you have added to the Weather app
- Alarms you have created in the Clock app

I'll keep posting if I discover more. I just want people to know what they are getting in to if they go this route, as opposed to hammering on AT&T for some fix on their end
