used iPad I purchased but don't have original Apple ID

Hi there, I just purchased this used iPad it's an older edition iPad but I don't know who the original owner is or their Apple Id? How can I do a manufacture reset on this device? I want to create a new account for my mom so she can use it, can you help?

It sounds like you’ve encountered Activation Lock.


The ONLY way the lock can be released is by the owner of the AppleID displayed on the screen.


If you can’t reach a cooperative prior owner, the device will remain unusable to you.

You’re here, which means the seller is gone, which means no refunds, which means you bought junk / got scammed.


You’ll get nowhere here with what is effectively if not actually a lost or stolen iPad.


We can’t help with a locked device, and Apple won’t.


Recycle it.
