extended displays/MacBook Air

Can you use extended monitors with new MacBook Air? I can't get my computer to recognize my Dell display with HDMI/adaptor.

MacBook Air 13″, OS X 10.10

Greetings kirstin180,

The following link has the tech specs for the current MacBook Air MacBook Air - Technical Specifications which supports One external display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz.

What you can do is start to isolate the issue.

Use one or more external displays with your Mac

If your Mac doesn’t detect a connected display

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Displays.
2. Click the Detect Displays button. (You may need to press the Option key to see the Detect Displays button.)

You can also try putting your Mac to sleep and then waking it.

Thanks.
