-------

Transfer Ownership:

  1. Transfer ownership of your son's Apple Account to whomever's account.* If his iPhone was synced with iCloud, then you may be able to get it from is iCloud Drive, rather than directly from the iPhone.
  2. Contact Apple Support, seeing if you can get the info.**

**Apple Contact Info:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there, as necessary
  • Why the Wait: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due to lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. You will need his Apple ID and Password in order to get past the Activation Lock which is a theft prevention feature. We cannot help and Apple will not unless you can provide the original receipt clearly showing the serial number. Check this link..

How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support

You can recycle the phone at any Apple Store.
