FaceTime between my Iphone and my kid's Ipad

Hello, I used to be able to "call myself" from my cell and it would ring on my computer and my son's Ipad. I just changed Iphone (from X to 11) and it's no longer working. FaceTime is working with others but not between our devices. It just says 'FaceTime unavailable" and drops the call. Any idea? Thank you.

If your son is the only one using the iPad, then you should probably create an apple ID for him and add it to your family sharing. Then you will just be able to call his apple ID with no issues.

Yes, you will have to sign out of the Ipad and sign back in with his Apple ID. Mainly it is only removing the data associated with your account, so mail, contacts, icloud drive files, messages, etc. The apps should remain, unless there is any game save files that are stored in your icloud account, then it will leave the app but remove the save files.

So, of course it is up to you. This data will not be lost, it is still stored in your icloud account and on your other devices. But, yes unfortunately this will be the only way to call his Apple ID, it has to be associated with a device and turned on.

Happy to help!

Open the FaceTime app and click new FaceTime. (Just search FaceTime in the pull down search bar or search in the App Library) There you can enter the Apple ID. It may also be easier for future calls to create a contact for your son and add the email address/apple ID to the contact. Then you can look up his contact and just hit the FaceTime button.

No worries,

So that just means that you need to set up facetime on your son's iPad. On the iPad, go to settings, scroll down to FaceTime and there should be a switch to turn on FaceTime. After you turn on the switch, below it there should be a section called reachable at and you should see your son's apple ID there with a check mark next to it.

If you see a different Apple ID then you need to log in to the iPad with the apple ID you created for your son. It is probably logged in, but if not let me know and I'll be happy to walk you through the log in process as well.

let me know how that goes and if it solves it.
