Messages on my iPhone

While some users will turn on the option to send “Read Receipts”, it does not indicate that the user has actually read the message. Only by the respondent replying appropriately will you know if they read your message.

Unless the person you're messaging has enabled read receipts, the only way you'll know is if the recipient responds.
