Example uses both SIMS using the same US area code. How about an example using a US area code and a foreign number? How do things change?

I want to buy an iPhone 13, to use in the US and in Brazil. I am concerned that the phone will send calls from the US to me in Brazil, and it will be expensive. Can I completely turn off one SIM (or one eSIM) when I don't want roaming charges?

Thanks for your help.

Hey there SteveW1,

It sounds like you might want to turn off Data Roaming if you will be in a different country using your iPhone. The guidance below will provide additional guidance:

Need to avoid roaming charges because you arrived at your destination without an international data plan? Turn off Cellular Data and Data Roaming.1,2 Open Settings and tap Cellular, or Cellular Data, or Mobile Data. Turn off Cellular Data, then tap Cellular Data Options and turn off Data Roaming.

You'll find the details above with additional options for roaming and eSIM here:

About cellular data roaming options for your iPhone and iPad

Take care!
