recording audio from a live phone call from Android phone

Hello all. Podcasting. Want to record a live call, getting the input audio from Person 1 on the phone (Android, currently) into Logic on one track (presumably via headphone jack from the phone/device into the interface), while capturing live audio from Person 2 directly into a microphone (also via interface) and onto a separate track...while maintaining the integrity of the phone call (such that Person 1 can hear Person 2, and vice versa). I want to be able to conduct the call as if it's just a normal call, but also be able to later edit the audio from each participant on the call separately (hence the separate tracks). This would not be a clandestine venture. Both participants would be aware the call is being recorded, and operating in full disclosure and knowledge. Does anybody know if this is the right way to be thinking of setting this up? Is it possible...is this the best/most efficient approach to create the recording I want, with clear audio from both participants?

Hi there, of course this is possible. Your audio interface has to have at least two separate inputs in order to pull this off: 1st one for the audio coming from the Android phone, 2nd one for the "studio" mic. What's the interface make/model, by the way?

You guys "in the studio" will have to wear headphones (that's because if you use speakers, the sound will be picked up by the mic and there could be nasty feedback, which is better avoided). If your interface has only one headphone jack, your could get a dual headphone jack adapter OR one of you guys would probably need to tune into podcast live feed on a separate device and plug their headphone set there. But I guess getting a dual headphone adapter is a better idea.

As for Logic setup, you just create two audio tracks, and set one to receive incoming audio from "Phone" input and the other from "Mic" input. If your interface allows to use direct monitoring, I'd use that instead of software monitoring (to avoid latency issues and other potential glitches, and also to reduce strain on Mac's CPU when recording).

I guess, that's it for the basics. Just to recap: always use headphones "in the studio" to avoid feedback and better monitoring of incoming audio.

If I missed something, folks with better understanding of radio recording techniques would correct me, hopefully. Cheers!
