iphone 7 haptic clunk/thunk when moving/accelerating

Hello Community,

iPhone 7 on 15.4.1 makes an annoying single internal thunk/clunk when I, say, pick it up off a countertop or move it quickly side to side.

It's like the 'haptic feedback' or whatever it's called these days, that you sometimes get when pressing into the display.

I've ventured through pretty much every Setting and every level to try to turn this off. It's not a 'game-changer' just an annoyance that I can't find the way to turn it off.

BTW it is not a 'vibration', which is more of a buzzing. More like a single tap of a hammer.

Any ideas what it could be and how to turn it off? Many thanks. daver

You're right iphone7 does not have tap to wake or back tap,

There is a possibility that the Taptic Motor has come slightly loose or another large component like battery has come loose from its mounting.

Having Apple repair it may cost you a replacement ip7 so you would be better to ignore it or buy a SE 2022 for similar money.

Hello LD150,

thanks for the ideas!

The first one I did, thunk was still there.

Second, was already off.

Third, 'tap to wake' is not in those settings; I searched Settings and the option was not in the results. Possibly not available on the iPhone 7.

Restarted the iPhone, thunk still there. Undid the Systems Haptics and Lock Sound changes and... still there!

Mysterious!
