How to remove other from disk utility. Can’t install OS because there isn’t enough memory

Trying to clean MacBook Pro 2018 for sale. Erased HD and now I can’t reinstall big sur, “other” is till taking up 100gb so effectively I can’t do anything expect use it as a door stop.

can’t open the laptop and can’t install an operating system.

can’t remove other.


advice please

You can't remove it; you may be able to reduce its size: https://osxdaily.com/2015/01/15/other-storage-space-mac-os-x/


You can use an external drive (SSD will be better) to boot from so it really isn't a doorstop yet. If fact, you may need to set this up to be able to "work on" your internal disk.


But before doing that, I'd reinstall the OS using a bootable flash drive: How to create a bootable installer for macOS - Apple Support


Wiping the drive is a good way to start from scratch, but be sure you do every step in order; skip nothing. And have good, recent backups.
