Cannot sign in to desktop or iPad

Every month or so, I cannot sign in to my computer. I have to change my password. When I do so, it messes up my iPad and everything else connected. I have called for “Tech” help but they do not help. All I get is that you may be signing in the wrong password??? Very tired of this.

iMac 27″ 5K, macOS 10.13
