Music produces/music engineers

Why does Apple only cater to photographers and videographers with editing software opposed to music producers and studio engineers where Macs are dominant in music studios when it comes to buying Apple software? I have a Mac that can be updated to the latest macOS but a lot of music software and plug-ins do not support the latest macOS but I would like to buy logic pro but I can’t unless I update to the latest macOS and completely ruined my recording studio and if that’s how I make my money I would be screwed. Can anything be done about this?

The majority of commercial studios ‘park the bus’ on a stable OS & DAW - there’s still plenty using Logic 9 or Pro Tools 9 or 10. In this context, time is money… & people, (& customers) appreciate reliability. 3rd party plugin compatibility also plays an important part in a reliable system, which (despite Apple’s constant OS upgrades), is down to 3rd party developers.

I agree it’s a shame Logic has not made more inroads as the default standard in commercial studios - particularly given it’s strengths. That being said… it’s very hard to recall an old Logic project from only a few years ago, (which is where Pro Tools excels).

Although Logic may not be a priority for Apple, I am at least grateful for it’s continued progress & innovation.

My take is to have two setups - one ‘one on the cutting edge’ (MBP), & the other ‘tried & tested’ (Mac Pro) - although I appreciate not everyone has that luxury.

@JotaGI… as far as I’m aware, it’s not possible to transfer a Logic X licence, (as it’s tied to the owners Apple ID)?

Hi there, it's a great question and sometimes Apple's policies baffle me as well (as they do pretty much everyone in this community to some extent, I'm sure). However, just bear in mind that this is a user forum, there is no direct line to the management here, so to speak. Also, I'd like to point out, that Apple's main business is selling hardware, so everything else (and this includes marketing decisions in terms of other products, like software) is sort of dominated by this paradigm, whether we like it or not.

That being said, though, if you provide a bit more detail regarding your Mac situation (your current macOS version, for instance), it might be possible to be more constructive in suggesting possible solutions to your problem.

Also, you could probably also send a suggestion to Apple directly using this link: Feedback - Logic Pro – Apple

Yes, it's pretty much a fact that Apple's policies are designed to sell hardware. Apple releases a new operating system yearly and the current version of Logic will only run on the current and previous MacOS release so you're forced to upgrade the operating system to stay abreast of the current Logic releases, the worst part is.... stability is thrown out the window. Once you get it in your head that Apple is a hardware company and that their software is designed to sell hardware then it's much less painful. :-)

Professionals need stability and support....

Yes Apple main products is software with hardware but lately they have been promoting a lot of their subscription software like Apple TV+, Apple music, Apple Fitness and Apple one so they do make a lot of money off software and the thing is they are losing millions of dollars from producers and studio engineers that will not by logic for their recording studios and there’s a lot of them such as myself. I was very interested in buying but I’ve been forced to continue elsewhere like Pro Tools, Logic has the potential to be the industry standard for instance I go to many studios that use Logic Pro X and loves it over other DAW’s but they can’t update to Logic Pro and Pro Tools updates are leaving them in the dust so they’re all switching back which will continue to keep Pro Tools the Industry standard so Apple is losing millions of dollars and don’t even realize it but Apple will be Apple.

I've come to terms with the fact that Apple is going to do what they're going to do, one can be onboard or not. It's a rough ride, things will get stabilized and then a new MacOS release and a Logic update....and it starts all over again. They're doing what Intel used to do, trying to overpower an OS with processor power... from my limited exposure to Big Sur and Monterey... these are not Great OSls for Audi production.

True, and maybe even talking with the customer support on that matter won't help much, because the corporate party line may be to encourage new customers purchase the app (not develop a market for "used" Logic licenses). I still think where's a will there's a way, though.
