You don't. It either works or it doesn't. The iPhone's "charger" is actually built-in ... but, it requires an external power source, typically a power adapter, to complete the charging process for the internal battery.
So, when having "charging" issues, you have (at least) five components to consider:
- The power adapter. Look for any type of damage. Try another adapter.
- The cable. Look for any frays or damaged connectors. Try using another "known good" cable,
- The iPhone's Lightning port. Look for debris or any noticeable damage to the port.
- The iPhone's charging circuit. A potential problem with the phone's logic board.
- The iPhone's battery. A potential faulty battery.
