You don't. It either works or it doesn't. The iPhone's "charger" is actually built-in ... but, it requires an external power source, typically a power adapter, to complete the charging process for the internal battery.


So, when having "charging" issues, you have (at least) five components to consider:

  1. The power adapter. Look for any type of damage. Try another adapter.
  2. The cable. Look for any frays or damaged connectors. Try using another "known good" cable,
  3. The iPhone's Lightning port. Look for debris or any noticeable damage to the port.
  4. The iPhone's charging circuit. A potential problem with the phone's logic board.
  5. The iPhone's battery. A potential faulty battery.
