Noticed quite a few people having this problem, i too have this message appear on my MacBook pro when i connect my iPad pro, did not have this problem until recently, it started after last mac update to version 12.3.1...maybe apple need to look into this.

If you see "Software update is required to connect to your iOS device" on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Notation: this Device Update does not change the version of macOS in any way. It just makes it Recognize the iPad

Refer to below from a M1 Mac Mini running Monterey 12.3.1 and never even attached the iPhone 12 with iOS 15.4.1
