What happens with my trade in if I return my iPad?

Once traded, it stays with Apple's trade partner. In other words, if you've already traded it in, it's gone.
I don't want to give wrong information. We are all just users here, like you. If you're in the US, call Apple directly at: 800-MY-APPLE and get a definitive answer about what is refunded how.
Thanks for the answer, so basically they take the old ipad used as a trade in but the credit they gave me remains in my apple card, or they charge me back?

You're welcome and good luck. What I'm guessing is you'll keep your Apple Card for the trade they gave you. If you financed the purchase using your Apple Card, you won't owe anything.
