New MacBook Pro M1 13 in No speaker icon?

Just bought MacBook Pro M1 13" and migrated my files/apps/etc. from my 2013 MacBook Pro running Big Sur. The new unit runs Monterey. On all previous operating systems I had on the 2013 unit there was a speaker icon on the top bar of the basic screen (along with WiFi icon, etc.) and I could direct the sound output to other WiFi enabled sound players, e.g., my new LG sound bar. Worked great! Now, that icon is gone and it seems that the only output from, for example, music source online, is the computer audio output. I cannot find a means to direct the sound to another WiFi enabled speaker. I can do this using the Apple music app and using airplay. But airplay does not seem to be available when playing audio (music) from a source that does not originate with the Apple Music app. Can someone please help me?

Have you tried Apple menu > System Preferences > Sound > Show Sound in Menu Bar and Apple menu > System Preferences > Sound > Output (at the top of Sound Preferences)?
