The Apple TV box will shorty flash the status light to acknowledge receiving a signal. It would even do that for an unpaired remote, or for a signal that is not executable.

Neither of the remotes I have operate anything showing on the screen. I cannot move across the screen from icon to icon or get an icon to operate. I therefore cannot open the settings icon to check anything or change settings. It is like a frozen screen
