AirPods are really quiet, even at max volume.

Yesterday when I went to use my airpods the volume was very quiet and sounded weird. Even at max volume the airpods sounded as if they were under 50%. I have tried to put them in their case and reset them, but the problem still occurs. The airpods are louder for other people surrounding than it is for the user, and they are not dirty as I had just cleaned them the day before this started happening.
