aliases not working
hi all.
when i create an alias and then open it finder takes me to Macintosh HD as opposed to the location of the original folder location.
any ideas why?

How was this alias created? It shows with an unusual icon.
Does this happen with all aliases, or just this one?
Select the alias and press Command-I to open the Info window. What do you see? Post a screenshot
Glad to see you solved it and thanks for telling us what the solution was. Yes, corrupted preferences files have been known to cause weird behavior but it had not occurred to me that this might be the case here. Great.
yep same thing with folders without an asterisk.
deleted the finder and dock plist files and works fine now.
it happens with all aliases.
this is what i see:
here is an example of it happening in a different way.
i can see the contents of the alias but when i right click > 'show original' it just takes me to Macintosh HD.
so weird.
any ideas?
Here is a thought: do all your aliases start with an asterisk?
Try renaming. Same thing?
