Sending and Receiving messages IPad

I need to receive my text messages but my phone is currently broken. I am trying to add my phone number to my iPad (that currently only is receiving texts from my email) but I can’t because I need a verification code sent to a number I can’t receive anything from. What can I do to get my messages while my phone is being fixed?
