I have a column of alpha-numeric entries: N-1, N-2.....through N-12. When I sort, N-10,11&12 come right after N-1 and before N-2.
Is there a way to tell Numbers that the number after the dash is an integer??

Sorry but that is not possible.
For Numbers this is a text, because you use "N-" within the cell.
But you could change it to N-01, N-02, .... N-99, then it will sort correct.
Or you could create a "support column" 1, 2, ... 99 and sort this.
