Hotspot login cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet

I'm trying to login to a hotel's wifi but cannot open the login page as this message keeps popping up "Error Opening Page: Hotspot login cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet." This only happens to my iphone 11 pro max (latest ios) and I have no trouble logging in to any other devices (macbook and another iphone). So far I've tried:

  1. Restarting the phone
  2. Airplane mode
  3. Reset network settings/Reset all settings
  4. Clear browser history + turn off block all cookies
  5. Auto-join ON/Auto-login OFF
  6. Apple ID log out

-> ask the hotel for a username & password to log in to their Wi-Fi.
