4K Apple Tv Audio Delay

Been happening for a while. Audio doesnt kick in to the video for 5-15s. Happens on some apps more than others but fairly consistent. Using Vizio soundbar set to eArc and updated cords to high speed hdmi. Very frustrating. Seems that others have had out of sync issues and doesnt seem like any solutions?

Open to thoughts. Thanks all

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities, Rippeddisc. We understand that you’re experiencing an audio sync issue with your Apple TV, and you’ve already tried some excellent troubleshooting.

First, make sure you’re running the latest tvOS version on your Apple TV.

Update your Apple TV - Apple Support

Then we suggest checking the audio settings on your Apple TV. For example, your Apple TV should automatically select the highest quality audio compatible with your television, but it may not be compatible with all the content you’re watching.

Check Settings > Video and Audio > Audio Format > Change Format and test with both Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1. Does one sound better than the other?

Play audio in Dolby Atmos or surround sound on your Apple TV - Apple Support

Warmest Regards.

Having the same issue as of late with my 4K Apple TV—actually for the past two months. I feel like it started happening with IOS 15 and as Apple continued to update versions of IOS 15, it's been getting worse. Currently running the latest IOS in case you're wondering.

The problem is that it's intermittent. Thinking it was a bad HDMI cable, I replaced both cables—from my Onkyo AV receiver to the 4K Apple TV box and HDMI cable from the receiver to my LG TV. Even with fresh HDMI cables, I'm still experiencing a no audio issue upon startup with all apps.

The audio eventually comes on—typically after :60 sec to 2 minutes, it is in sync with the picture and is stable for the remainder of the viewing experience until it's turned off.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

FWIW, I don't have this issue with my Apple TV 4th Generation which is running the latest IOS.

Rippeddisc,

We're glad to hear that your Apple TV and apps are up to date.

To further isolate, are you experiencing the issue if your Apple TV is connected directly to your TV?

If yes, we recommend that you reach out to us here so we can take a closer look into the issue: Apple TV - Official Apple Support

If no, we recommend that you reach out to the manufacturer of your sound bar.

Take care!

I’ve also had this issue for a long time. This only happens when my AppleTV is directly connected to my Vizio SB36512 via HDMI. After playing something, the sound does not kick in for several seconds, sometimes even a whole minute. There is no audio sync issue - the audio/video is fine once the sound starts.

This is the only way to take advantage of the Dolby Atmos on the soundbar, so I’ve just been dealing with it.

It seems as if it’s taking a while for the devices to figure out what to do with the sound. For example, I will stream a show on the AMC app and the commercials sound is fine, but once the episode starts, the sound goes out for several seconds.

I was thinking the issue was specific to AppleTV - Vizio, but ron j. has his connected to a receiver.

Since both of my Apple TV devices are running current IOS, I will perform a test to see if the issue is truly with the 4K Apple TV devices running current IOS.

I will swap Apple TV devices (4K Apple TV with my 4th Gen 1080 Apple TV ) on my equipment to see if confirm if it's an Apple TV device issue or a glitch somewhere with my AV equipment (TV and receiver) that is causing the audio lag and I will report back.
