Dial pad tone
Surely there must be a way to get rid of the annoying dial pad tone without switching to silent mode.

I’m not sure what you mean by “dial pad tone”. If you mean the DTMF (Dual Tone Multi-Frequency) tones you hear when you touch a button on the keypad they are needed to tell the network what number you have pressed, and also, after you connect to an automated system, how you select menu items in the automated system. If the tones are suppressed you would not be able to “Press 1 to speak to a representative”, for example.
