iMAC G5 iSight 17" Display Problem

The display started showing short vertical lines and is now so distorted that you have to guess where to click. I ran the diagnostics tool and everything passed except the video.

There was an error message "2ATI /1/4 113-xxxxx-113" so I suspect that the ATI Radeon X600 Pro graphics processor with 128MB of DDR SDRAM is failing.
The video chip is on the logic board which costs a lot to replace. Any suggestions?

PS: I hooked an external monitor and confirmed that it is not the LCD.
