Automatic iPhone backup to macOS over wifi?

I have a Mac mini and iPhone, both with the latest software (Monterey, iOS 15.4.1). I would like to have my iPhone automatically back up to my Mac over wifi when the phone is plugged in and the computer is on. Right now I can perform a backup over wifi, but it is not automatic. Basically, I want my computer to replicate the function of automatic iCloud backup. Is that possible?

The following settings are checked:

Back up all of the data on your iPhone to this Mac

Encrypt local backup

Show this iPhone when on wifi

Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected

Even though I have tried rebooting my Mac and connecting my iPhone to charger, no automatic backup has occurred, and the last backup is the manual backup I performed yesterday morning. Am I missing something, or is automatic backup from my iPhone to my Mac mini not possible?

The backup should initiate when you plug the iPhone into the charger and your WiFi is enabled on your local network. From my experience it is the only time a backup will take place. It will not perform "periodic" backups, i.e. daily, unless the above condition is met.

With that said, in the past, I have found it to be somewhat hit or miss. However, with Monterey and iOS15 it is, at least for me, much more reliable.

I assume both the Mac and the iPhone are using the same AppleID? You may want to try signing out and back in on both devices.
