Quicktime "Export As" menu is grayed out

I see others have asked for help on this and no replies. I found an answer to this so thought I'd post it.

I have a big MOV video made on my iPhone and only need the audio. I loaded the file into Quicktime but the Export As menu was always grayed out. After not finding answer answers on why menu is grayed out I just started looking for any answer. It seems the Finder has an option to export files to other formats.

You open Finder and select the file you want to do the export on. With the file selected go to the Finder main menu. In that menu you will see a menu item calle Services. Go down to the Service menu and it opens a sub-menu. In the sub-menu you will see in item called Encode Selected Video File, click that. dialog box opens on the screen and there is a drop down menu of type exports and you can select from. For me I selected Audio Only and it created a file with the audio only for me.
