Music app Syncing; which is Leader and which is Follower device?

If I make changes to a playlist on Mac Music, it should sync across to the iPhone Music app.

If I make changes to the playlist on the iPhone, it will override what is on the Mac during sync.

Are these statements correct?

It is my experience that, after I have edited playlist on the Mac Music app, the changes dont always appear on the iPhone app, and in fact are lost as if the iPhone was the leader and the Mac was the follower. How do I make sure that changes on the Mac override and carry over to the iPhone?

Changes should be reflected on both devices whether made on phone or Mac. Some people using Monterey are having issues of changes made on Mac not being reflected on the phone. You can leave feedback with Apple: Product Feedback - Apple
