Two-step authentication, or two-factor authentication provides nowhere to enter code

I'm logged into icloud on both my iphone and imac. I get the code to enter for two step authentication, but there's nowhere to place the code.

iPhone 12, iOS 14

If you are logged in, why do you need to receive a code? Are you trying to log in another way? Have you tried logging in using http://icloud.com? Do you get a code on either device that way?
