On my new MacBook Pro every time I open Safari a second tab automatically opens which is my banking website. This also occurs when Safari opens by following a link to a website.
In Safari > Preferences > General I have:
Safari Opens With: A New Window
New Windows Opens With: Start Page
New Tabs Opens With: Start Page
I don't see my banking website anywhere in Preferences

The first step fixed my problem. I had quit Safari but hadn't tried to force quit. As soon as I reopened it after the force quit the second tab no longer opens.
