Apple play list - stop the next song playing

How do I stop the next song from atomically playing when using my apple play list on my MacBook Pro or my iPad. I need a play list for a show and don't want one song running into the other. I have read that there is a list that I can uncheck the songs but in may case I can't get that list to come up. Thank you to anyone that can help me.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.14

Correct, you need to uncheck all the songs in the library, or at least in the playlist you are using. Since iTunes will not automatically advance to an unchecked song, this means it will play the song you select and then stop.

If you don't see the checkboxes, go to Music Preferences > General tab, and check "Show songs list checkboxes."
