Robotic voice on calls

Hello,

I have a 13 Pro Max. In my house I do not have cell reception so I rely on wi-if calling. I can make hour long calls no problem however whenever I am out of the house and my wife calls me from home on wifi calling with her iPhone 12 she will sound like a robot and I can barely hear her. It’ll revert back to normal for a few seconds but then happen again. She said I am the only one this happens to. She had an iPhone 11 before with the same issue. I see that other people have experienced similar issues. Any suggested remedies? Thanks

Hello Labreclo,

We understand that when your wife is using Wi-Fi calling she sounds like a robot and this issue only occurs when she calls your phone. To get a better understanding of the issue, we'll need to ask you a few questions:

• Do you experience this behavior in a particular location or multiple locations?

• When your wife migrated from an iPhone 11 to her iPhone 12, did she set up the device as new or was it restored from a backup?

To ensure that were covering a of our bases, we have some steps that we'd like for you to take:

• Contact your carrier to make sure that your calls don't have errors on the carrier system or that there aren't any localized service outages.

Manually update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad

Update iOS on iPhone

• Reset your network settings. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will erase all current saved settings, including Wi-Fi passwords, preferred networks, and VPN settings. Be sure to make a note of this information prior to completing this step.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Stay safe and well!

Hello Grace,

thanks for the reply. The problem only seems to occur when my wife is calling from home as it is probably the only place where she relies on Wi-Fi calling to call me. She does however make numerous phone calls to other people and no one else has mentioned to her that she sounds robotic. It only happens when she calls me and I could be anywhere.

i believe when she got her iPhone 12 she probably just restored from backup.

This has been going on since we bought our new place (Dec. 2020)

i have tried calling the carrier in the past but they said that they can’t see it being any issue on their end.

at this point I am not sure if the problem is with her phone or mine however i did experience the same issue when I had the iPhone 12 Pro Max and I had “set up as new”. It must be her phone.

thank you

Labreclo,

Thanks for providing us with those details. To clarify, have you had a chance to complete the additional steps that we provided in our previous message? If not, be sure to perform them on each device. This allows us to further isolate the issue. If you continue to experience the same behavior, we suggest reaching out to Apple directly. Best wishes!
