For as long as I can remember, I could click on the Text Edit icon in my dock, and a new empty document would appear.
Today, when I click it, I get an Open document dialogue.
Sorry to be indelicate, but DO NOT WANT.
thoughts?

System Preferences > Apple ID > iCloud Drive Options… [ ] TextEdit. WIth this unchecked, you will eliminate the Open dialog panel.
