Mac Studio recovery mode restarts while "examining volumes"

Getting to Recovery Mode > Options works as expected, but "macOS Recovery" screen displays "examining volumes..." for about 10 seconds, then the Mac restarts. I never see the options.

Steps from normal restart:

  1. Shut down (done!)
  2. Press and hold power button until Mac enters recovery mode and displays hard drive and options icons. (done!)
  3. Click options, then "continue" button below the icon. (done!)
  4. MacOS Recovery window opens, displaying "Examining volumes..." for about 10 seconds and Mac restarts.

Steps from System Preferences > Security and Privacy > General > Enable System extensions... button:

  1. Click the Enable system extensions button.
  2. Alert box appears, "To enable system extensions, you need to modify your security settings in the Recovery environment" plus instructions. Screenshot below.
  3. Click Shut Down button
  4. Mac shuts down.
  5. Press and hold the power button
  6. Apple logo appears (does not occur in the case above). Keep holding button
  7. macOS Recovery window opens, with "examining volumes..."
  8. Mac restarts

I am running the latest Monterey, 12.3.1 -- but problem was there on previous version as well.

Any ideas?

Greetings, Aragog88.

You’ve already tired a lot of great steps. Since the issue continues:

“On a Mac with Apple silicon, you may first need to use Startup Security Utility to set the security policy to Reduced Security and select the “Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers” checkbox.” About system extensions and macOS

We hope this helps!

Sincerely.

One more piece of data: On the advice of Apple Support, I created a Bootable Install Volume on an external disk.

This created a volume called "Install macOS Monterey" and it appears when I enter Recovery Mode. But when I choose it in Recovery Mode, it behaves exactly the same way: "Examining volumes" for 10 seconds then restart.

Dunno if that means anything =)
