In 2019 you could not “move” photos from recents into an album. It’s 2022, can you move them now? Geez apple it would be so much more efficient to do that. Wonder why so many people I know are going to android’s? It’s because we want some control, not what apple says you can do.

It is still not possible to move photos from the Library folders "Recents", "Imports" to custom albums. I doubt it will ever happen. It would break the basic design of the Photos Library completely. The library folders are a kind of smart albums, based on all photos in your library, arranged in a specific order for the album. You can only remove photos from the library folders by deleting them from your Photos Library.
Photos is automatically creating a basic library design for us, and we can build our own design on top of it with our own albums and folders. You will have to find different photo application, if you want a different architecture design.
