Wireless keyboard and startup keycodes

I have been using a Logitech wireless keyboard K400r for some time with no problems. However, one popped up when I – for the first time – wanted to use a startup key (Option/Alt), that is, press a key when the Mac boots. This works OK with a wired keyboard (I dug up an ancient one for a test), but it does not with the wireless one.

I thought the nvram command might be useful, but I cannot find any real documentation for the arguments.

Can anyone help? Thank you in advance!

Bluetooth Keyboards used for keyboard combination needed to be perform at the second the computer is started from a Cold Boot, generally ire iffy at best.

That you have already experienced and found the solution - USB Keyboard :-)

The why is, because the Bluetooth Kernel is not yet loaded as High Sierra has not loaded or fully loaded.

To share - running Monterey on a M1 Mac Mini with the Apple Second Generation Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and when I needed to perform a similar action as you tried, only from experience, automatically used the trusted USB Keyboard knowing what I have experienced in the almost 20 years in the Apple Eco-System.
