can i identify an Apple device from the MAC ID number

I have an unknown Apple device on my Network. I've accounted for ALL the known Apple devices (that I know about). This has an unknown MAC ID, but is definitely Apple. Any way to determine what it is?

You can find the MAC address of each device through the Preferences/Settings interface, but it sounds like you've already done that part, and still have an unknown device.

If you're sure it's an Apple device, then check if any of your devices are using Private Wi-Fi addresses. This creates a virtual MAC address to help mask your connection. Check Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Private Wi-Fi Address. Does that help?

Follow the instructions in my post:

Settings -> WiFi -> <network info> -> Private WiFi Address and toggle the switch. Apple really couldn't have made it easier. You don't need to be tech savvy to turn it on/off, although understanding how it works/what it does requires a little more understanding.

The Private WiFi address uses a private class MAC address that wouldn't be associated with any vendor and seems to match your situation.

In either case, check the settings. It will tell you what private MAC address it's using and see if it matches the device you're looking for.

I don't think it is an Apple device. Apple's devices show Apple as the Vendor in my scanner. Even the ones that start 00.

I've tried a couple of online MAC searchers, and it the vendor doesn't even show up. I was hoping that there was a key to the MAC ID assignments.

PS: don't know how this got into this forum, but there really wasn't anything close to it.
