Is everything on iCloud now?

More and more it seems iCloud is taking over. I just noticed, after the Monterey update, that Macintosh HD has nothing personal in it. I can search for individual things and they're all there, but they aren't listed.

I've been using Macs since the mid 90's and I have tons of stuff. I have a backup drive too, but that's for emergencies. So is there anything physically stored on my iMac anymore? Or is it all on some server in some Apple building?

Remember what iCloud is used for. If you have multiple devices that you want to access your data on iCloud is invaluable. For example, my wife and I travel. I store documents I may need access to in the cloud so I can access them when needed. For example, I like having access to a copy of my passport, reservations, check-in info, etc is/when needed.

Babowa and I have different points of view on cloud storage, neither of us is wrong we just may have different needs and solutions that work for us.

In short, you need to first fully understand what cloud storage is and determine for yourself if it is something want and need or not.
