FCP voiceover only lasting 1 second

I've been trying for over an hour to fix this and I'm not sure what to do?

I'm in final cut pro, and I'm recording voice overs. I've tried 2 different microphones and neither of them resolved it so it's not the equipment.

I've checked to make sure that the app has access to my microphones as well and have scouted all the advanced settings on the microphone.

My microphone is working with all other applications on my computer but

when I record a voice over it only gives a 1 second recording, despite my attempts to record something longer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try resetting preferences.

To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting FCP X and click Delete Preferences. The application will start in a default state, and open an “Untitled” library.

Reopen the library you were working on, set the preferences the way you like them, and try again.

What version of FCP and macOS?

If the issue persists: Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here.

Use the “additional text” button and paste the report into the text box.

A few things of note from the report:

• You have not restarted your mac in a long time. Sometimes a restart can clear up transient issues.

• Your OS is 11.5.2; the final version of Big Sur is 11.6.5. Even if you can't or don't want to upgrade to Monterey, it may be worth updating to 11.6.5 (*)

• You have Chrome and its evil keystone daemons. These call big problems for video applications. See https://chromeisbad.com for an explanation and instructions for getting rid of them

(*) There were many security fixes in the last Big Sur updates; and if you don't rely on stuff that may not work in Monterey, there are several improvements that come with Monterey - including some FCP features that only work in the current OS
