Erasing and content and settings - stuck on "Uploading Data to iCloud" for over 60 minutes

Hi all,

I'm simply trying to erase my iPad. I enabled iCloud backup and performed a backup. I then went to General --> Transfer or Reset iPad --> Erase All Content and Settings. I click continue and get to the part where it says it's Uploading Data to iCloud. It says "Time remaining: About 2 minutes" and it has been stuck there for over an hour. I went to a dentist appointment and came back and it is still on that screen. I have tried clicking on "Skip Backup" on the bottom with no luck. The button doesn't do anything when I click it.

If the iPad is unresponsive, you’ll need to perform a forced-restart:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

It's responsive. Only the "Skip Backup" button on the bottom is unresponsive. Also, I have performed two restarts to see if this helped solve the issue, it has not. I can cancel out of this window and use the iPad without issue. The steps above to erase the iPad however continue to reach the same road block.

More info. I decided to turn off wifi so that it would not have a connection to do the upload to iCloud. I did see a different screen this time. The screen said "Uploading Data to iCloud - If you erase now, you may lose photos and other data that are being uploaded to iCloud." And two options on the bottom "Finish Upload Then Erase" and "Erase Now" and I clicked "Erase Now" and that button is unresponsive. The "finish upload..." button is responsive but brings me back to turning on wifi and then makes me go through the same road block as before.

For sure this is a bug.
