USB-C Thunderbolt dock not working w/ MBA M1 since 12.3.1

After researching for a while the past weeks, It seems I'm not alone having issues with Thunderbolt/USB-C docks/hubs since Monterey (and for some even on Big Sur), specially on M1 hardware (MBP, MBA) after macOS 12.x.

The Apple developer forums have a thread on-going for about 10 months with multiple reports of docks/hubs not working on Monterey.

Myself started to have issues since upgrading to 12.3.1 on my MacBook Air M1. My Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Pro Dock simply does not work since the update, I had intermittent issues before but could connect USB peripherals, the SD card reader would mount cards, etc.

I've not been able to use it, none of my USB devices are detected (monitor, audio mixer, multiple electronic instruments), the SD card reader is not detected by macOS, monitors connected on the DP port or USB-C don't get a signal, etc.

I have seen reports where using a USB-C 3.1gen1 cable might help, but information is hard to piece together and issues have been reported for a long time.

It completely broke my workflow for recording music, has anyone experienced and solved this issue?

Keep in mind that if you had intermittent issues before 12.3.1, then something was not working properly back then. I don't know if the issue is the dock itself, but it seems to have been flawed before the 12.3.1 update. When the MacOS is changed, the way the flaw manifests itself might change, but this sounds different than a dock working perfectly before that then changed. I have had docks simply stop working, one port stopped in one case, in another one a Thunderbolt port was intermittent and the HDMI connection caused a flickering screen.

If you can do a controlled experiment to convince yourself one by one that each peripheral works properly when connected directly to the Mac, then I'd be suspicious of the dock. It's unfortunate when this happens because some of these docks are $200 or more.
