Why does it cost the consumer that has a issue with an iPhone battery that apple says needs to be replaced? Isn’t it like a recall like a car gets a recall the manufacturer doesn’t make you pay you go and get it fixed at the manufacturer of the cars expense right. So why does apple charge for the battery replacement that they say you need???

vary curious

Rechargeable batteries are wear items where the capacity degrades over time. There's no specific defect with the batteries per se, but Apple was dealing with the issue where they throttled the CPU when the battery capacity was below a certain limit. They're like vehicle tires or brake pads. Eventually they'll wear out and there's no means to stop it. But now it's not necessarily a given that the CPU will be throttled.

However, it's not a requirement to change a battery. Some people deal with it by carrying external battery packs.

Sure, a bad car battery will be replaced while the car is under warranty.

But a bad car battery will absolutely cost the owner, once the warranty expires.

Car batteries are wear items, too. Just like wipers and tires.

Car batteries can and do wear out. Again, just like wipers and tires.

Depending on the car battery, you might get five years’ service, before replacement becomes necessary. Sometimes more. Sometimes less.

The car manufacturer usually doesn’t warranty the battery for as long as the battery usually lasts either, and the manufacturer can quite often specifically disallow replacement coverage for wear items including batteries and tires; replacements for failures other than for material defects.

Apple does cover failed batteries under the standard warranty, and under AppleCare+.

Folks that lease their car—or that lease their iPhone, or routinely trade-in their iPhone when new iPhone models are available—might well never see these repair costs.

But… Car batteries and iPhone batteries can and do fail, and the owner will be paying for the replacement, post warranty expiration and absent indications of materials or other manufacturing defects.

if the battery the most important thing cause it is what you need to run your phone needs replacing and apple knows this it is like a recall cause I can take a battery out of a car and replace it right but you can take a apple battery out to replace it ultimately need a certified tech to do so right. It’s crazy that apple nose of the issue with the failing battery and can’t replace it at there cost come on million dollar company that can’t honour a faulty battery at there cost

And? There isn't a single device electronic manufacturer that replaces batteries (even when defective) for free out of warranty. They replace defective batteries while in warranty. Normal wear (anything after 500 charge-discharge cycles with iPhones) is not considered a defect.

The only exception is perhaps when there a special service program.

If you really want to, you're free to try and install the battery yourself whether or not it's Apple or aftermarket. And on top of that, Apple is now starting DIY service. It's not cheap, but if it's done correctly Apple will help to reset the battery warnings. As with any kind of repair, there are a ton of caveats. But in the end paying to replace a battery is not unusual and the prices that Apple charges are similar to other manufacturers for approved service.
