Why cant I find and rename my iPhone back up?

I just spent many hours getting my iPhone working again. I did a back up through iTunes now that it works properly. My question is why cant I save and name the back up file so that in the future I can just restore the back up? How will I know which back up is the working one? Can I locate the file and rename it?

I don't believe you can rename the backup. The backup is named by iTunes with the name of your iPhone and includes the date and time the backup was last updated. This can be viewed at iTunes > Preferences under the Devices tab.

When restoring an iPhone with iTunes, a new backup is created. You can delete a previous backup or backups at iTunes > Preferences under the Devices tab.
