Mail Doesn't Update Unless Open

I have four email and one Calendar accounts, and unless I open the Mail app, they will not update. Each account is set to Fetch (every 30 minutes), with Push set to off. This has never been an issue until recently, the only change I can think that would have caused it is a software update. Until whatever broke this, I have always had my emails updating without the need to launch the mail app, so it's frustrating to have to open Mail to check my emails.

I've done some searches and done some suggested 'fixes' such as toggle Push on/off (it's still set to off), and the obvious restart, but no change.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks

Martin

Mail doesn't update unless the application is open, and it never has.

The fetch timing only applies if Mail is open and running.

Obviously it doesn't need to be in the foreground, and it can even be iconified, but it has to be launched and running or Mail will not (it literally cannot) retrieve mail.

I’m a little confused…

If I open the mail app, it’s always been to review/read/delete the messages I’ve received. Once I’m done, I’ll close the app fully. Up until a point in time, Mail would be downloaded every 30 minutes regardless of whether the app was open or not. As I said, with no apps open, I would always wake up to email notifications that had come through overnight.

Since whatever caused the change, I now only get emails if I launch the Mail app, or have it open (but minimised). So when I wake up, I have to open Mail to get all the emails.
