Screen cover lock/unlock not working

I have a 2018 iPad 6th generation. I have tried 4 different cases that are known to work with the lock/unlock feature (one of them I the Logitech with keyboard Apple sells) and none have worked. I have gone into settings > display and brightness and ensured it was toggled on. I have turned the feature off, restarted, turned it back on, restarted to see if it just needed a slight kick but nothing. I have ensured that the iPad is running on the latest updates and I have reset it TWICE but still nothing. It seems the only thing that switch does now is disable the lock from power button if it’s toggled on. It used to work but now I don’t know what happened. Someone please help I would greatly appreciate it.

Hey Peteknok06,

You completed some great steps trying to resolve this issue. Let's turn off the feature, restart your iPad, then turn it back on to see if that helps:

Tap Settings > Display & Brightness and turn off Lock/Unlock. Steps found under "Wake and sleep your iPad" here: Use the Smart Folio or Smart Cover with your iPad
Restart your iPad
Turn Lock/Unlock back on.

Tried it, no luck. And I know the magnets on engage because I have felt it and tested them with hand held magnets to make sure. I’m at a loss now. I know it’s a small matter but with school and battery life, that feature really helps stretch it out and allows me to take notes all day. Any other suggestions?

We'd like to confirm that you're using a compatible Smart Cover. You mentioned that you've tried several. Is this one of the Smart covers you have used: iPad Smart Cover.

I have used the one in the link you provided that is sold by Apple. Below are links for the others I have tried. I know these work because my daughter has the same iPad (year, size, model exactly the same) and the cases work with hers no problem. Thank you for your help, and the links are below.
